I haven't read fiction in years. But for my first, it is going to be Lord of the flies. Dabbled with Pride and Prejudice, the abridged version. Didn't go far
Read it recently. It’s a great thriller dressed up as lit fiction — not to cast aspersions on either of those genres: it’s kind of a masterclass in both.
It's one of my favorites. I love how it shows that civilized people trapped together for very long in an anarchist setting can quickly descend and it all feels very real. These boys have never had a taste of actually ruling their own society and the dark side consumes everything. I would assume that things would shift back over time, but the story doesn't go into that. We just get the chaos and it's quite something to read. I feel for Ralph and Piggy who are just trying to be sensible. Excellent read all the way.
Lord of the Flies is my all-time favorite book (with The Very Hungry Caterpillar being a close runner up). The book was hauntingly convincing, even more so because the characters were kids, just doing what seemed natural to them or what they'd seen adults doing, and I've got a soft spot for an innocence lost story. Really good themes that we don't see a lot of.
Also just the way he describes the setting is otherworldly.
Alright, please, Dear God. There needs to be a warning before commenting or replying when the content being responded to was written a year ago...now I feel silly.
